Welcome
The People's Emergency Briefing is a film that presents frank and hard-hitting facts about the climate and nature crisis we are facing. It has been made to help inform communities and to bring them together in conversation. It can be a difficult message to hear, and harder still to know what to do in response.
This website gives our island community a place to come together in facing the problems the film sets out, to understand them in a Guernsey context, and to help shape the action we can take as individuals, as businesses and in policy.
The film was made for the UK and talks about MPs and Westminster. We don't have MPs; we have deputies and the States. The evidence is the same. The decisions are ours.

The nine briefings
In November 2025, ten of the UK's leading experts briefed politicians and leaders in Westminster. The film is built around those briefings. Each speaker's briefing can be linked to Guernsey's climate.
What can we do in Guernsey?
It's easy to leave a film like this feeling that the problem is too big and the island too small. Neither is true. Here is where to start.
As individuals
- Host a screening with your friends, family or club
- Look at how you travel: bus, bike, walk, share
- Support nature in your choices — in your garden, on the beach, at the ballot box
- Think about where your food comes from, and buy local where you can
- Think about how you use energy at home, and whether solar or a heat pump would work for you
- Give an hour: join a work party, a beach clean or a citizen-science survey
As businesses
- Host a screening for your staff
- Measure your footprint and set a target — the Sustainable Business Initiative will show you how
- Look at your energy use and your buildings first; that's where the money is
- Ask questions of your supply chain
- Make it easier for staff to travel without a car
- Put your CSR budget into local climate and nature projects, not offsets overseas
In government
[Draft — awaiting review]- Deliver the net-zero pathway already agreed, and report progress openly every year
- Bring the offshore wind decision to the States before the end of 2026 and make the case for it in public
- Fund the coastal defence priorities before the sea makes the decision for us
- Give islanders real alternatives to the car: buses, cycle routes, safe pavements
- Back the Strategy for Nature with land, money and planning policy
- Treat food, water and energy resilience as one problem, not three
